"I retired in ‘98 and we moved Austin Village in 2001. There was plenty to do, I done it all through like, that took took two or three years by the time I’d finished the house and garden, got everything how we wanted it. I was at a loss then, I can’t sit around not doing anything. I’m not a television person, so I thought, I’ll have to find something to do. "

"A lot of people don’t know about the Austin Village and a lot of people who come because of other stories about it, they just fall in love with it and they stay. A lot of people come to spend their twilight years here and they enjoy where they are, because of the peace... We’re hidden at the back of Turves Green and the railway and I think perhaps the ‘hiddenness’ has helped preserve it. "

“It's been the heart of Longbridge for a 100 years. There are not many places that you can say everyone knows each other and everyone will help each other. The street parties of Austin Village we had every year, I absolutely loved them, literally the whole year you would be waiting for the next one. When they were stopped, because of the cost to put them on, I must of been about 10 or 11 and I was so gutted that they stopped doing them that I actually organised a petition. I went round the whole village to get everyone to sign it.”

“We didn't realise this place even existed, for us Longbridge was industry and cars, we knew nothing about it really but it certainly didn’t suggest a little oasis, I was just amazed to find a little village like this. Everyone we spoke to while looking for a bungalow was friendly; nobody said they didn’t have time."

"People have visited from various areas and I don’t know of any exception of people not saying what a nice place it is to live, and I'll take their word for it. I’ve been here all this time, which must mean I’ve been happy here. There has been sad times of course, but generally speaking it's been worth every minute and I've got no wish to move away. Not only for the place itself but for the people I know, who are so good to me."
